Program Information

You spoke, and we listened, again! Based on feedback from NAPEO members and past CEO Forum participants, NAPEO's 2013 CEO Forum combines practical and hard-hitting executive education and PEO related content along with informal peer networking. Again this year, the forum is available a la carte, so you can pick and choose to attend, one, two, three, or all of the events (if you sign up for the series, you will benefit from a discount.) The executive education component of this year's program will again offer the unique opportunity to learn from three Stanford University professors, this is a not-to-miss, once (or now twice) in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the best of the best! In addition to this invaluable learning experience, you'll benefit from the opportunity to forge lasting connections with like-minded industry colleagues in an informal setting.

Executive Learning with Stanford University Professors
Back again for 2013, a chance to learn from three well known Stanford professors and authors in a unique small-group setting.

  • David Demarest, A Conversation on Strategy: David Demarest is currently the Vice President for Public Affairs at Stanford University where he is responsible for directing Stanford's community initiatives, and overseeing communications, government relations and special events. Demarest served four years as an assistant to President George H. W. Bush and a member of the White House senior staff. As White House communications director, he worked directly with the president, the White House chief of staff and the Cabinet, and in that capacity managed a broad range of White House communications activities, including presidential speechwriting, public liaison, media relations and intergovernmental affairs. He also currently teaches two classes at Stanford: At the Stanford Graduate School of Business, "Political Communications — How Leaders Become Leaders" and in the Stanford Sophomore Seminar Program, "Making Sense of Strategy — The Heart of Problem-solving in a Complex World". Demarest will use his background to have a conversation with the CEOs on strategy that you can use in your business and personal lives alike. He will also regale us with his "war" stories at dinner on Thursday night!

  • Jennifer Aaker: A social psychologist, Jennifer Aaker is the General Atlantic Professor of Marketing at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. Her research spans time, money and happiness. She focuses on questions such as: What actually makes people happy, as opposed to what they think makes them happy? How can small acts create infectious action, and how can such effects be fueled by social media? Her work has been featured in a variety of media including The Economist, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, BusinessWeek, Forbes, CBS Money Watch, NPR, Science, and Cosmopolitan. She co-authored the award-winning book, The Dragonfly Effect: Quick Effective Powerful Ways to Harness Social Media for Impact. A recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award, Citibank Best Teacher Award, and George Robbins Best Teacher Award, she teaches courses like Social Brands, Designing Happiness, and How to Tell a Story. She counts winning a dance-off in the early 1980s among her most impressive accomplishments, and cooks very poorly.

  • Baba Shiv, Baba Shiv's research expertise is in the area of neuroeconomics, with specific emphasis on the role of neural structures related to emotion and motivation in shaping decisions and experiences. His recent work examines the interplay of the brain's "liking" and "wanting" systems and its implications for marketing, innovation, leadership and decision making. The nature of the issues that he examines are: Does being denied something make people pursue it more hotly but also simultaneously like it less? Does a wine's price tag price affect the pleasure one experiences? In the past few years, he has also focused his attention onto the neuroeconomics behind innovation and entrepreneurship leadership in companies small and large, from silicon valley tech startups to Fortune 500 companies
